If Your Love Language is Quality Time, Your Travel Style Should be
Rainforest trails at Elements of Byron
From wild wellness and private island conservation to rainforest walks, underground wine cellars and coral reef discoveries, these are the resorts creating more meaningful ways to spend quality time together.
In a travel landscape shaped by packed itineraries, constant connectivity and the pressure to see and do everything, uninterrupted time has become its own form of luxury. For travellers whose love language is quality time, the most meaningful holiday may not be the one with the longest list of inclusions and amenities, but the one that creates space to be together, without distraction.
Private beach picnic at Song Saa Private Island
Song Saa Private Island, Cambodia
What's a more meaningful way to spend quality time together than doing something that benefits more than just the two of you?
At Song Saa Private Island, the answer lies in the resort's long-standing conservation and community work through the Song Saa Foundation, where guests can participate in experiences connected to marine conservation, local communities and the protection of the surrounding environment. The resort itself was built around a conservation-based approach, with a preserved coral reef, local materials and a strong connection to the ecosystems of the Koh Rong archipelago.
The newest chapter is Saraan Sanctuaries by Song Saa, a nature-integrated wellbeing concept spread across the private islands of Koh Ouen and Koh Bong. Named after the Khmer word for love and rooted in the Buddhist concept of metta, or loving-kindness, Saraan brings together Indigenous knowledge, nature and modern wellbeing practices. Guests can choose from experiences including nature walks with the resident botanist, sound healing, Buddhist blessings, meditation, movement and the Digital Detox Journey, as well as programs designed specifically around connection.
Insider tip: Go beneath the surface together. Ask to join the Song Saa Foundation's marine scientists for a house-reef snorkel, where they can introduce you to the corals and marine life around the island before taking you behind the scenes at the coral nursery and showing how damaged parts of the reef are being restored.
Hike to Panagia Church from Gundari
On Folegandros, quality time is about having the freedom to follow the day wherever it takes you. Gundari's secluded setting makes it easy to spend an entire day between the spa, pool and villa, while the island itself invites exploration, from hidden coves reached by boat to ancient paths and the atmospheric lanes of Chora.
Couples can start with a Ritual for Two in Gundari's subterranean spa, then head out on a private boat to nearby Polyaigos, discovering hidden coves, beaches and the clear waters of the Aegean. Or take the zig-zag hike to Panagia Church at sunset before wandering through Chora's stone-paved alleys and settling in for a local dinner at one of the island's tavernas.
Insider tip: Learn to cook like a local. Gundari’s concierge team can arrange a traditional Folegandros cooking class, where guests learn to prepare some of the island’s specialities. It is the kind of experience that gives you something to do together, something new to learn, and ideally, something to recreate at home.
Underground cellar at Gili Lankanfushi
At Gili Lankanfushi, privacy is the bedfellow of quality time. Spacious overwater villas create a natural separation from the rest of the resort, while private decks, direct access to the lagoon and the resort's house reef make it easy to spend an entire day together without ever needing to follow a schedule.
There is plenty to discover though, if you do decide to venture further, from the house reef and marine life to surfing, kayaking and other ocean experiences. But some of the most memorable moments are found in the details: a long lunch, a swim straight from the villa or an evening spent somewhere neither of you expected to find on a private island.
Insider tip: Ask for the underground wine cellar. Tucked beneath the island and hosted by the resort’s sommelier, the cellar offers a wine journey created around your preferences, paired with canapés. It is the slightly surreal experience that feels like being let in on a secret – particularly when you consider that you’re on a remote Maldivian island, several metres below ground.
Destination dining at Zannier Bai San Ho
For couples who want quality time to feel like a genuine escape, Zannier Bãi San Hô offers a rare combination of seclusion, beauty and vibrant cultural cues. Its name translates to Bay of Corals, a nod to the private coral reef bay that curves around the resort, while the property itself feels almost like an extension of the landscape – 73 villas scattered between rice paddies, hills and the sea.
But the real pleasure is in discovering how deeply Vietnam is woven into the resort. The sensuous villas draw on the architecture of the region's Cham and Ede communities, with natural timber, bamboo, rattan, Vietnamese textiles, silk prints and collected artefacts giving each space a distinctive sense of place. Some sit high on the hills with uninterrupted views across the bay; others open directly onto the beach, with private pools and terraces that make it very easy to lose an afternoon together.
Beyond the villa, couples can get closer to the culture that gives Bãi San Hô its soul: visiting a traditional fishing, farming or craft village with a local guide, learning to make rice paper, seeing a salt farm in action or taking a basket boat out onto the lagoon. Even the dining is an extension of the experience, from Grandma Hai's regional recipes at Bà Hai to freshly caught seafood served in the thatched huts of Làng Chài.
Insider tip: Don't just look at the bay - get into it. Ask the team to arrange a guided snorkel of Bãi San Hô's house reef with one of the local guides, who can take you beyond the easily accessible shallows to some of the bay's more pristine spots. There's something particularly special about swimming together through a place whose name literally means Bay of Corals.
KEPOS by Goco at Daios Cove
At Daios Cove, quality time can mean making wellness something you pursue together. The resort's newly redesigned KĒPOS is a 2,500-square-metre wellbeing sanctuary inspired by the ancient Greek concept of the garden as a place of wellbeing and happiness. It includes nine treatment rooms, two double wellness suites, a vitality pool, private hammam, thermal facilities, sauna, steam room and BXR gym.
The resort's villas add another layer of privacy, with private pools and generous spaces overlooking the cove that make it easy to spend an entire day together without leaving your own corner of Crete.
Insider tip: Go deeper than the treatment menu. Ask the KĒPOS team about its more diagnostic approach to wellness, including body-composition and fitness assessments that can be used to create a personalised programme. For couples who would normally never think to do something like that on holiday, it becomes an unexpectedly fun – and very specific – thing to discover together.
ANDRONIS Concept vineyard
ANDRONIS, Santorini and Paros
At ANDRONIS – which has four resorts on Santorini and one on Paros – quality time is about giving couples something to do together that connects them to the destination. Across the collection that might mean learning the secrets of Greek cooking, exploring the island's wine culture or simply enjoying a private vantage point from which to watch the Aegean change colour at sunset (a rare treat in Santorini).
The experiences are rooted in the islands themselves, from Santorini's volcanic landscape and ancient vineyards to its distinctive culinary traditions. They offer couples a way to spend time together while getting beyond the postcard version of the destination.
Insider tip: Adopt a vine together. At ANDRONIS Concept, wine-loving guests can adopt their own vine in the resort's vineyard – a chance to understand the life of a Santorini vine and the relationship between the island's earth, sun and winemaking traditions. It's a particularly lovely way to take a little piece of Santorini home with you.
Trails at Elements of Byron
At Elements of Byron, quality time starts with 50 acres of nature. Set between rainforest and the Pacific Ocean, the resort encompasses four distinct natural ecosystems, giving couples plenty of ways to spend time together outdoors without needing to leave the property.
Take a rainforest walk, follow the resort's bird trail, explore its outdoor activities – from yoga and bocce to tennis and swimming – or spend the morning at the beach before retreating to Osprey Spa for a treatment together. The evening can be equally unhurried, with dinner at Azure Bar and Grill followed by a return to a peaceful, private villa, where a deep bath, a bottle of wine and the sounds of the surrounding wildlife provide little reason to go anywhere else.
Insider tip: Ask for Alastair. Elements of Byron’s in-house naturalist, Alastair Oakman leads guided rainforest and birdwatching walks through the resort’s different habitats, helping guests identify everything from bird calls and animal tracks to the species that call the property home. It’s a very different way to experience Byron Bay – and one that leaves you feeling connected with the earth and with each other.
